March 2020 - Record month

Updated: Mar 16, 2020

It has been my record month for book sales. Hooray!

Unfortunately, it is my record low month. Boo!

It looks like it is just two books sold for the month. In my Sherlock Holmes persona I have made three elementary deductions:

  • Number 1 – If I don’t promote my book then I don’t sell my book.

  • Number 2 – I have sold more than two. Amazon have sold at least three more books, but it is from their stock so it doesn’t count, to me, unless they order some more from my printers. However, the more sold on Amazon the closer Amazon are to putting in their next order of books

  • Number 3 – Moriarty must have sabotaged the thousands of people that wanted to buy my book and connived for them to buy ‘The Penguin Lessons’ instead. What? No, don't ask me "What are the Penguin Lessons?" You see, even you are succumbing.

Anyway, I haven’t been resting on my laurels. In fact, I don’t even know where my laurels are or what they are. I am certain I haven’t been resting on them though. Meanwhile, when this thing called life hasn’t been keeping me busy then things have been taking shape. A vague wobbly blob, but nonetheless some sort of shape. I am therefore pleased to report:

  • My Amazon author page is up and running with words, pictures, a video and mugs of coffee. If you want to visit it is just here:

  • The Amazon reviews have hit double figures. Hooray! I think that means that random Amazon punters are now allowed to be a bit interested in my book – although they may be more interested if the double figure moves from 10 to 20

  • I have also been developing a strategy to move up the sales ranking list. At the moment my book is in 'Travel Writing', but I have noticed that there is 'Literary travel', 'Budget travel', 'Adventure travel', 'Solo travel' and 'Travel with bad jokes by a big eared fella called Jeff from Frisby-on-the-Wreake travel’. This means that if I sell the same number of books per day (10% of a book at current rates) I can be higher up in a less populated category.

Hopefully, I will be back in April with news of a few more book sales. I plan to:

  • Get my book stocked in a shop

  • Start using Twitter

  • Ask my big brother for help

  • Carry on using more bullet points

Anyway, the updated scorecard reads:

Books sold = 290 (up 2)

Money raised for Meningitis Research Foundation = £1,187

See you in April!
